A bad hire can be very costly. That's why it's so important to be thorough in all of the activities you perform during the hiring process. Once the needs assessment and business case have been made, and you have your position descriptions in place, the next step is to complete an accurate and compelling job requisition. The job requisition is a description of the open position that puts the search into motion, both internally and outside the organization. Completing a job requisition requires that you put your needs on paper and translate them into easily understood information that gets passed along to your staffing firm partner, put into an ad in the Sunday jobs section, or posted on online job boards. With a well-written job requisition, you can maximize your time in the staffing process by attracting the most qualified and interested candidates to the position. Using the job requisition as a tool during the actual interview can help by comparing each candidate you interview on an equal basis and ultimately result in selecting the most qualified candidate for your team. The job requisition should include the following information: The Job Title: Be careful with job titles. To attract the right caliber of candidate you must be specific. The better you target your title and description, the more targeted your candidate will be. No one wants to be interviewed for a nebulous position in an organization that's not sure what it's looking for. Use common industry job titles that won't confuse candidates. A Unique Selling Feature: What's unique about the position and your organization? No travel? In-town location? Find your unique selling feature and state it prominently. Some examples include:
